"1stRound" is Japan's largest cross-university incubation platform that supports the commercialization and social implementation of outstanding university-related technologies and ideas. It was launched in 2017 as an "entrepreneurship support program" with the University of Tokyo as its parent company, to provide non-equity funding to accelerate initial action and hands-on support to help startups become entities with estimable business value. In 2019, the name was changed to "1stRound" and the program was expanded in a consortium format with the participation of corporate partners. After that, national and private universities joined, and the program expanded to 13 universities, the largest number in Japan (※1).
